Now, ART involves several procedures customised to mediate the deficiencies in the parents. Along with IVF, other ART techniques involve ICSI, IUI and so on. Surrogacy and fertilisation with donor eggs are also done with artificial reproduction technique.

 IVF

IVF or In Vitro Fertilisation have grown with technological advancements, resulting in an increased success rate and increased number of live births. The different stages in IVF include ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, fertilisation, embryo culture followed by embryo transfer or cryopreservation. In women with at least one functioning fallopian tube, techniques like GIFT or ZIFT can be performed.

ICSI

ICSI or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection is performed the quality of sperm is poor. It involves directly injecting the sperm into the egg in a laboratory. This procedure is mostly done as a part of IVF procedure. The procedure is adept at combatting male infertility.

IUI

IUI or Intra Uterine Insemination is one of the least complex methods of artificial reproduction technique. It involves the direct placement of sperm into the cervix or uterus of the women using artificial procedure. IUI is performed in cases where sperm is unable to survive within the woman’s body.

Surrogacy

Surrogacy is a type of artificial reproduction technique, where egg and sperm collected from the intended parents are fertilised and implanted in another woman’s (surrogate) uterus. The procedure is done on the agreement that the custody of baby will transferred to the biological parents, once it is born. This method is relied in cases when a woman’s uterus is not equipped to carry a child for 9 months.

Donor eggs

When a woman is not able to conceive with her own eggs, an egg donor service must be relied upon. The donor egg is fertilised with sperm and implanted in uterus for a successful result.
